Manage Access to the Seller’s Square Online Dashboard
Provides instructions for managing access to a seller’s Square Online dashboard from the Weebly for Web Designers portal.
The Square clients page in the Weebly for Web Designers portal is used to request and manage access to a seller’s Square Online dashboard. After the seller accepts your access request, you can use this page to launch the dashboard, where you can access the code editor, site settings, and catalog.
To open the Square clients page:
Sign into the Weebly for Web Designers portal using your Weebly for Web Designers account credentials, and then choose Square clients from the navigation pane.
If you don’t have an account, see Set Up Your Weebly for Web Designers Account to learn how to create an account and enable it to access Square Online accounts.
Your access to a seller’s account is limited to resources related to Square Online development, including the site and code editors, Items and Orders pages, and various account settings. You cannot access the seller’s personal information, banking information, or other areas of the Square dashboard.
You can customize site code from the code editor or from a local development environment using the Square Online CLI with an OAuth access token.
Request site access
Requesting access requires the email address associated with the owner of the Square account, so make sure to obtain this email address from your clients during your intake process. After obtaining access, you’re authorized to edit or upload code on their site.
- Open the Square clients page in the Weebly for Web Designers portal.
- Choose Request access and provide the following information:
- Square account email - Enter the email address of the Square account owner. Access can only be granted using the email address of the Square account owner.
- Message - Optional. Enter a message for the seller.
Access to Square Online accounts is governed by the Designer Access Acceptable Use Policy. By sending the authorization request, you agree to the terms of the policy.
-
Choose Send. You’ll see an Access pending status for the seller on the Square clients page.
Weebly sends an access request to the specified address. It includes your message and lists the following permissions that the seller must agree to:
- View and edit your site
- Update your contact and billing info for your Online Store account (not including your Square account info)
- Share your site with other people
- Purchase domains and other Weebly services
After sending an access request, you might want to let your client know to look out for an email from Weebly.
You can send another access request if the seller didn’t receive your first request, revoked your access prematurely, or hires you for additional work.
View access status
After you request site access from a Square seller, a corresponding entry for the seller is added to the Square clients page in the Weebly for Web Designers portal. The access status is listed in the Access column, along with status-specific actions.
-
Access pending - An access request was sent but not yet accepted. From the Actions column, you can resend the request or cancel and remove the pending access request.
-
Shared with you - The seller accepted your access request. From the Actions column, you can log in to edit the site in the Square Online dashboard or remove your access.
When access is granted, Weebly sends an Access Granted notification to both you and the seller.
-
Access removed - The seller revoked your access to their account. From the Actions column, you can resend the request or remove the seller from the list.
When access is removed, Weebly sends an Access Removed notification to both you and the seller.
Open a seller’s Square Online dashboard
For Square sellers that have a Shared with you status, you can open their Square Online dashboard from their corresponding entry on the Square clients page in the portal.
- Open the Square clients page in the Weebly for Web Designers portal.
-
In the corresponding entry for the seller, from the Actions column, choose Login to edit.
The Square Online dashboard opens. Although you’re signed in under the seller’s account, your access is limited to features that are available on Online pages, such as the code editor.
Remove your access to a seller’s account
Sellers typically revoke your access to their account after your work is completed, but you can optionally revoke your access from the Square clients page in the portal.
- Open the Square clients page in the Weebly for Web Designers portal.
-
In the corresponding entry for the seller, from the Actions column, choose Remove my access.
The entry is removed from the Square clients page.
Weebly sends an Access Removed notification to both you and the seller.
Next steps
Before you begin development, you and the seller must decide whether to develop against an existing site or a new site.
